Saskatoon berry, also known as western service berry or juneberry is a shrub or small tree and can grow 1 to 5 m tall. It has thin, soft and oval-shaped leaves with white flowers. The berries are sweet and the colour can vary from purple to black. It grows everywhere from low to high elevations and it can be found in the understory of open forests as it prefers sunny locations. The berries have been used by First Nations for food, flavouring, as preservatives and as medicine for digestive problems
